Our Story

Founded in 1949 and headquartered in Hargeisa, Qaalib General Trading began as an exporter and has since evolved into a leading importer and distributor of cosmetics, skin care, textiles, and a respected property owner. The company was founded by the Qaalib family in 1949, during the era when Somaliland was under British Protectorate rule. Initially engaged in exporting hides and skins to India, the United Kingdom, and other markets, it soon expanded into Djibouti, trading in rubber sandals, flip-flops, and oud (traditional incense). Following Somaliland’s independence in the early 1960s, Mohamud Qaalib established the company in Mogadishu, where it gained renown for supplying high‑quality cosmetics, skin care products, and textiles.

Qaalib supplies trusted, affordable consumer goods across Somaliland, Somalia, and neighboring markets, operating ten major wholesale distribution centers in Hargeisa, Wajaale, Berbera and Burao, alongside regional branches in Garowe, Bosaso, and Mogadishu. Quality beauty products and textiles - most of them imported under the Qaalib-brand, are sourced from reputable producers in the Middle East, China, and beyond. In addition to trading activities, Qaalib also manages a diversified real estate portfolio that includes hotels, a business mall, and more than 100 residential homes. This dual strength positions Qaalib as both a leading consumer goods supplier and property holdings, consistently balancing commerce with dignity and community impact.
